This is a photo of an actual crown that sits regally behind glass at the Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC, which I visited recently.
I am disappointed that it’s blurry because it’s a truly beautiful piece of craftsmanship–I’m not sure whether to call it a piece of jewelry or a hat…
Back in the 80’s, remember the 80’s?, there was a show called Designing Women and one of the 4 main characters was played by Delta Burke. Ms. Burke’s character had been a teen state beauty queen and never really let go of the image of herself as royalty.
At one point someone in an episode referred to the “crown” she was wearing on her head – may have been a headband, something more tiara-like, I can’t recall and Delta’s response was “This? This in’t a crown, it’s just a little something to hold my hair back!” My friend Julie and I took that line and ran with it for years, princesses that we were. What great fun, what great memories!
