On the Fourth Day of Christmas My Children Gave to Me

I typically don’t work between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.  It’s my thing.  My mother was always off work during this time and it’s just what I like to do.  Home with the children enjoying Christmas tree, Christmas treats, and chillaxing.

This is our 7th day off together – or the fourth day of Christmas.  So,

On the fourth day of Christmas my children gave to me –

Four loads of laundry

Three dirty dishes

Two hours of “me” time

And a stinky mouse running on his wheel…….

Point of fact – fancy meeses are significantly more odoriferous and shall we say pungent than dwarf Chinese hamsters.  Reese is a pretty little thing but messy and stinky, lol.  His first order of business was to build himself a next on his second level and made a mess with the fluffy bedding in the process.  Methinks my next gift to Kate will be her own personal dust buster to clean up after her mousey-kins.

Her room is being painted – she chose a bright green (Chartreuse (UK /ʃɑːˈtrɜrz/US /ʃɑːrˈtrz/ or /ʃɑːrˈtrs/;[1] French pronunciation: [ʃaʁtʁœz]) is a color halfway between yellow and green that was named because of its resemblance to the green color of one of the French liqueurs called green chartreuse, introduced in 1764. Wiki).  I tried to sway her to different shades of green but she insisted on it.  Two walls in chartreuse and two walls in turquoise.  Can’t wait to see it when it’s done.  Of course now I don’t like the shade of the off white furniture in that room but it’s got to stay.  And then there’s the chair and love seat that need new covers and the new duvet and bedding that need to be purchased.

The list of things I’m “saving for” is growing as I add up hours worked slowly at the new job.  As I contractor I’ll be billing the company monthly and will be paid 45 days out.  Will be fine just as soon as the cycle starts up and checks are coming monthly, huh?  2013 is expected to be a busy year with a large target number of proposals to be written.  I’m ready for it – so happy to be on the business development side of things especially in a firm where the client service professionals don’t bear the larger part of the burden for bringing in new work.

For now I’ll enjoy my last few days off, take a trip up to PA for a New Year’s Eve party and dive right in.

The tree will stay up until January 6 which is the feast of the Epiphany and it’ll be fun to add to the 12 days of Christmas treats from the kids as we go.
