I’d like to take this opportunity to write to you all one last time loyal followers. This will be my last blog post because tomorrow I’ll be busy cooking up our Thanksgiving feast and on Friday I’m venturing out to shop on……..BLACK FRIDAY!!!!
Black Friday shopping is something I never do. The thought of being out there with the masses of humanity pawing through merchandise, waiting in long check out lines, nah, that’s not for me. First of all the Christmas shopping I actually do has dwindled to such a small amount and I see no need to remove any possibility of enjoyment from doing that little bit by being part of the gang bang that is Black Friday shopping.
As I thought about this in the shower just now I realized that for some this is actually a fun and exciting thing–being where the action is and I respect that while I don’t understand it….at all. For me the ideal Black Friday activities would include curling up on the sofa under a warm blankie reading the papers or a good book, eating leftover turkey and pumpkin pie, watching some Criminal Minds or Covert Affairs episodes I’ve recorded and maybe writing out a few Christmas cards just to get myself going on all that stuff.
Another thing is that I really enjoy shopping online especially when I know exactly what I’m looking for down to the make and model. Satisfaction there, for me, is getting free shipping. I’m cool with not getting that last 5% savings if in fact I’m actually paying more than I would if I went to the store but somehow I think it works out and I usually don’t pay up much for shopping online.
So my daughter wants to go shopping on Friday. Don’t make the same mistake I did and get all excited, oh no, because to her going clothes shopping means heading straight to Sports Authority for athletic wear. I thought I would have to take her out at some point to verify her size but I worked all of that out by picking up a pair of jeans and they fit and bingo, she’s a size 8. The fact that every pair of girls’ jeans is a skinny jean does not help me in any way. This is why I like looking around online, by the way, it’s easier to bypass all of the skinny jeans by modifying your search!
She needs a sweater or two and some non athletic, non denim pants, at least one pair. The fact that whether she goes with me to get them or not she will avoid wearing any of it at all costs does not make me thrilled to jump in the car and head out to a mall or the outlets, btw. But I may just take her out for the experience of it all and if I do there is a possibility I will not make it back home ever.
I am not planning to be at the outlet mall in the middle of the night – I think they start at 4 a.m. and I am not planning on being at a Kohl’s at 6:00 a.m. and so I feel that if I head out at a decent 10 or 11 a.m. I may find myself in a parking lot orbit circling around for a parking spot forever. By the time I run out of gas I’m sure I’ll be passed out from thirst or hunger or exhaustion or disbelief at the sheer lunacy of being out there on that day – so that is why this is my last blog post.
